Dastardy

Aaron tried to call me three times today. We had gotten into an argument the night previous about which movie was better, Year One or Land of the Lost. Aaron has basically been homo for Will Farrell since Night at the Roxbury, so he couldn't believe I actually thought that Year One was funnier. The argument got a little more heated than it should have and Aaron started to play the whole blasphemy card. Saying stupid things like, "You only like that one better because you haven't felt the spirit since the mission." and "If Year One and Land of the Lost were brothers Year One would be Lucifer."

Both movies were terrible, but if they were the last movies on Earth, and "funny" was the judging factor Year One is, I think, the obvious choice. The other guys heard our back and forth, and because of Aarons stupid, religious argument, pretty much all of them sided with me. Some hurtful things were said and Aaron ended up a little offended and storming off to bed early.

I thought he was calling to apologize or further argue or something so I didn't bother answering. Hasn't the idiot heard of text messages?

I couldn't have been further off base.

Aaron got home and as soon as he saw me said, "Dude." There was a look of concern on his face I hadn't seen since we were mission companions. I was suddenly aware that he had something very serious to tell me. I didn't say anything I just braced myself.

Aaron said: "Carla called me today and said that Andrea called off the wedding."

It took a second for Aaron's words to sink in.

I looked at Calvin and Tim who were in the kitchen with us when Aaron dropped this bomb. It took another couple of seconds for me to rein in the whirlwind in my head enough to say, "What? When?"

Aaron said that Andrea had gone through the Temple today. He said that a few hours afterward she canceled the wedding altogether. I stood by in a mini state of shock, while Calvin and Tim prodded Aaron for whatever details he knew of. Aaron's version was basic. Carla didn't know much about why Andrea canceled the wedding. Carla told Aaron that Andrea's mom told her that Andrea said it just wasn't right...

A very small part of me wonders if her rash decision has anything to do with me. After a little bit of thought I decided that it seemed bigger than that. I think if anything, our conversation a few days ago might have shaken her a little bit... maybe. Perhaps all my talk of eternal love had her second guessing herself.

Maybe the fireman did something dastardly. Maybe she had some revelation in the Temple. Maybe she lost her testimony and would be leaving the Church. Who knows?

Regardless... I haven't the first idea what to do... If anything.

I know that before I do anything I need to let some time pass. Canceling a wedding one day before it's supposed to go down is no small thing.

Is it bad that I'm really happy about this! I know canceling a wedding is always sad business, but after her calling the other day and how sad and hard that was for you, it just makes me happy. Who knows maybe you and Andrea might just have a possible chance at trying things again, and I think you should really consider that possibility. Cuz honestly Jake it seems like Andrea still thinks quite highly of you, faults and all, she seems to like you for you. But I do think your right about giving her some time, but who know's maybe this is going to be your chance of being able to go in and pick up the pieces and make things right and keep her this time. Just some thoughts though. But even though it's probably horrible of me to be happy about this happening, I can't help but be happy for you and excited and hoping that something happens with you two!

Jake,
Please don't take advantage of her. Wait a week, call her. Ask how she is.
Cry with her..but don't make out with her.

Good Luck buddy. Don't get yourself in a big mess now.

Shelia said...

Nah, I don't buy it. I think you are making stuff up to spin a dramatic ending to your star crossed lovers novel.

But if your stories are real, then please do exactly as Liz says, don't take advantage of her, don't make out with her.

Oh man. You can handle it. Don't freak out.

This is so crazy... so crazy, in fact, that after your Timp story fail I'm genuinely unhappy that this, in all likelihood, 1) didn't happen at all or 2) happened four months to ten years ago.
booooooooooo....

make out with her.

Ahhh what a good friend that Aaron buddy is... putting all those hurt feelings aside to give you a message like that.

Score!!! We knew she wasn't one for the fireman's pole. Wait a few days, call her, then give her a little space. If she comes to you, take it in stride. If 6 months passes, she's free game.

Holy Hannah! I am SO involved in this right now. Please make something exciting happen.

phew! seriously, she'd only known him for a few months...

also, yes, don't make out with her, for the love of aaron's kitchen tile, talk to her, but don't make out.

i can keep saying it, but do you really take any blog-readers' advice?

this feels like a movie and yes I understand that real life isn't a movie, but i'm hoping my two favorite characters live happily ever after in the end

hmmmm....I'm not too sure about this....Although it was exactly what I wanted to happen. I have a hard time believing this, and I've been a reader since the beginning. As in, every single dang post...if this is fake, at least make it a little more realistic for the next post so I can keep justifying my loyalty. Thanks.

OMG!! This means pressure. Pressure for Jake to marry her. If you cry like a little girl on the phone with some girl she is gonna think you LOVE her. So nice going dude, buy the ring it is over you just crocodiled her up with your ducts. Don't ever cry, it makes us think you really care and if you do then get ready to kneel at the alter of all I want is a wedding bro cuz she took a ring from that dude straight up quick... At the Alter Andrea wants your eternity.

Whoa I'm so happy about this, yet I'm so scared that you might mess this up. But heck I'll be optimistic and hope you don't screw this one up again. Jake just be smart, be her true friend again, go pick up the pieces, just don't use her to get a piece.

Looks like you got your second chance bud, so take your chance and don't let her go or get away this time. At least give it a chance and see what happens, grab yourself by the balls and don't get scared and worried about her having better than you. I think it's safe to say from her calling, her letter, and now from her calling off the wedding, that Andrea really likes you for you, your bad habits, faults, and all.

Dude, don't call her. If you make the first move after your phone conversation, and after she canceled the wedding, you become the douche-bag that messed things up for them.

If she comes to you it's a completely different situation. Then she's just indecisive.

I am so glad I don't have to go see the new Twilight movie!! This satisfied my yearning for forbidden love.

I'm not giving you any advice (cuz there's enough up in here) but I will say, Year One....duh! That's a no-brainer.

oh. my. goodness. i literally squealed NO WAY! when i read that. wow.

Little Debi said...

Don't call her. Just let her come to you. If/when she's ready to talk, she'll call.

Little Debi said...

Oh yeah! I forgot to add... Year one definitely wins.

Oh MY GOODNESS! I thought it was maybe a mean joke Aaron was playing, but srsly!! Wow. Glad you're not getting a big head over it or nothing. We wish the world revolved around us, but it doesn't really. Boo.

p.s. I think my life is better off *because* I have never seen either of those movies. That is the hope I hold onto everyday.

What does it mean that she "went through the temple?" My first thought was that she got married, but that's obviously not it, if she called off the wedding.

Dude...this is serious stuff...

Like...whoa. What an interesting turn of events.

DCFresh said...

Best of luck Jake, hope this is leading some where good for both Andrea & you (even if that doesn't mean Andrea & you together)

If after your last post about how you teared up talking to her and this, you don't make a real effort to try things out with her, my ounce of faith in your ability to have a relationship will be squashed.

Jake...honey...give her a few days and then you need to sweep in... She knew that he wasn't the person God had chosen for her... Don't let her slip away...

I did not see that coming.....

I don't mean to be heartless or whatever. But I now feel like I'm reading a book. I could never decided before how real this blog was. But this makes me feel like its a lot less real. But hey I guess this could have really happened. I'd be super proud of this girl if it was/is. I don't think I would be brave enough to call off a wedding!!!

I think a lot of people get this blog confused with a soap opera. Andrea, Jake, and the studly fireman are all real people, Jake should NOT just run in there and try to swoop Andrea off her feet, as far as we know there could have been a million other reasons for the cancellation, and Andrea probably needs time to think things through. Things won't turn out perfectly, it's not a movie, don't do anything drastic unless you feel the Spirit is guiding you.

Dea said...

Well - that was very, very brave of her. It's not easy to call off a wedding, but it's always better to cancel a wedding than file for divorce, or live miserably ever-after.

If 'Land of the Lost' and 'Year One' were brothers they would be Lucifer and Cain. Both being a waste of time and you can decide which movie gets which title.
