Who is Keyser Soze?

We have readers from all walks of life, I think. Well, maybe not "death bed" walk of life, but most of the other ones. Well, one of these "walks" has been posting a link on Twitter and Facebook to a blog where the author claims to have "revealed" our true identities. It has resulted in several comments on our blog and a myriad of tweets and statuseseses on Facebook. The author of the aforementioned blog, however, is anonymous. (We can't stand people who think they can do and say whatever they want just because they're anonymous.)

This guy has created this blog for the sole purpose of "revealing" us. To add insult to injury, he also has placed advertisements on his blog so he can make money off of our blogs untimely demise. To prevent him from making any money, I've copied and pasted his blog in it's entirety right here. If you're afraid I've altered the text, you're more than welcome to visit his blog. Just don't click on the ad's or else he'll get paid 1/20 of a cent for each click.

Now, onto the blog which is causing so much controversy (with simultaneous tingling in our loins):

I first came across this blog a few months ago, and thought it was a pretty novel idea: two guys who claim to be roommates that write about their various dating escapades and adventures living as young, single, recently returned missionaries. In their stories, they talk about topics such as “horizontal make-outs,” “define the relationship (DTR) talks,” scales of attraction, and other slightly more taboo subjects for young single adults of the LDS faith. I thought the blog was funny and entertaining, and I found myself relating to some of the situations and stories they described. They wrote without fear about some of the things that we, as men, often think about women, but should never say in front of them. This led to hundreds of responses from readers (mostly women) that were as entertaining, if not more so, than the posts themselves. There quickly became a division among the readers—those who defended the writers for being cool, funny, laid-back Mormon guys, and those who hated them for being typical, disrespectful, chauvinistic men. So, even though I felt a little out of place, I occasionally visited the blog to catch up and have a few laughs. I maintained this activity as a guilty pleasure, since I knew that most (probably 85%) of their readers are women. I became aware that many people questioned whether the blog was real, and even more girls wanted to know who these awesome, funny guys were (presumably to “jump their bones”). The writers addressed the issue by claiming they needed anonymity in order to “protect” the other people involved. I began to read another blog called “Expose the Mormon Bachelor Pad,” which sought to discover (and presumably expose) the writers’ identities. Anonymous comments were left with varying theories, links to facebook profiles, and even anecdotal encounters. Of course, nearly all of these theories were based on the assumption that the characters’ basic information was correct. This led the majority of the sleuths down completely wrong paths, and even helped MBP out in some ways. However, it was discovered that the writers had formed an LLC, liked to shop on the company dime, and even had a lawyer. It became apparent to me that there was a business objective here. However, I could not tell whether the blog was real, and the writers later decided to make some profit (why not?), or whether the entire site was fabricated to generate income. I’m still not sure if the writers realized in the beginning how popular their blog would become. In revealing their identities, I do not wish to frustrate their business plans. I’m sure that they will continue to write as wittily and to be as creative as they have been in the past. If they continue to write well, people will continue to read. They seem to have a cult following that would believe their every word, and some of those people probably won’t even believe that I’m right about them. After I had discovered the characters’ true identities, I left a couple of innocent comments announcing that fact, and only included their real first names. I congratulated them for being such great writers. Those comments were never published, since they began moderating them some time ago. Since they wouldn’t offer me even that tiny bit of credit, I decided to write this and expose them. I think that people deserve to know that what they are reading is fiction. If you want to continue to believe that MBP is real, and that “Jake” or “Calvin” is your future eternal companion, I suggest that you stop reading now. Otherwise, may the truth set you free. Oh, and please buy a shirt from them, because they deserve it, if only for pulling it all off. I will not go into the details about how I discovered the identities of the authors, but I will say that it was merely by luck and not by any sinister (or illegal) means. After noticing several connections and coincidences, I was able to identify them based on their personal (but public) blogs and profiles. Once I show you the evidence, you will see how easy it was to tie them to MBP. Everything I know has been gleaned from those sources, so I might be mistaken on some points. Also, I have not been able to tell whether there really are two writers, or if both characters are written by the same person (which would be “Jake”). In either case, it appears that “Calvin” is, at the very least, based on a real person. Without further ado, allow me to introduce the writer(s) behind MBP: Revelation

John is a fan of the band Less Than Jake, which probably has something to do with his choice of pseudonym. Similarly, Cameron is a fan of the comic strip “Calvin and Hobbes.” So, in truth, John and Cameron really are two great writers who have created a fascinating work of fiction which may or may not be based on their real dating experiences (past or present). This is not the first project they have worked on together: #1: “House Of Nine” appears to be a photo blog honoring a house very similar to the Mormon Bachelor Pad, but was probably occupied roughly 10 years ago (by my guesswork). This would reinforce the theory that MBP is actually based on the authors’ past experiences. #2: “Out of the Blue” contains a comic strip that John and Cameron created together. It is also similar to MBP in that it involves a group of quirky young men who live together, and their dating lives. This project even earned them an award in a journalism competition. #3: “The Cinematic Experience” is a movie review blog by John and Cameron. Its most recent posts include video reviews, and those of you who wish to get up close and personal will have all of your utmost desires fulfilled. From these videos it is apparent that “Jake’s” and “Calvin’s” physical descriptions on MBP are accurate. #4: They are currently involved in a competition called the “48 hour Film Project.” I’ve had a lot of fun figuring this all out, and I hope you have too. Most of all, I hope to give credit to John and Cameron for their creative endeavors. Well played! Shortly after creating this blog, I left an anonymous link on "Expose the Mormon Bachelor Pad." I decided to do this so that those people who were truly interested in knowing who the authors were might be able to find out. This may have been a giant mistake on my part. Within hours, all of the previously cited blogs (and even John and Cameron's youtube account) were either privatized or deleted. Obviously, this provides even more evidence that I have hit home, and they are frantically trying to keep from being identified. The most interesting thing is that my comment on ExposeMBP never showed up. Well, well, well... it appears that John and Cameron themselves, or someone close to them, actually created ExposeMBP. This does make some sense, considering that they even posted a link to it from MBP. It may have only served as a straw man, intended to throw any truth seekers off the path. Of course, it also served to give their blog a little more allure, and keep some of their readers' attention. It certainly kept mine!

Wow. You probably have a million questions right about now, don't you? Well, that's why we're doing this post. Here are the options available to us right now and your feedback is welcomed as always:

1. We can explain why this other dude's blog is untrue and point to several alternative explanations as to why his arguments appear to be so sound, but really aren't.

2. We could actually tell the truth which would involve a lot of other stuff.

3. We could lay out a time line for your viewing pleasure from the birth of this blog all the way through yesterday.

4. We could do a series of Q&A blog posts where you submit your questions via comments or email and we do our very best to answer each and every one of them as honestly as possible.

5. We could upload the video of when we stripped at those two bachelorette parties a few years ago.

6. We could give mad props to Blazzer (one of our commentors) who consistently hit the nail on the head with pretty much every single one of his comments.

7. We can ignore these accusations and continue writing as Calvin and Jake while secretly hoping that Jonathan Thomas Martin: Supermodel and Abbie Warnock don't send their parents to our house wielding baseball bats.

8. We could join hands and walk quietly into the sunset, never again uttering the words "Mormon Bachelor Pad".

Love,

Jake and Calvin

Um, stripping video please! In all honesty, I'll miss your writing if you just walk into the sunset! Don't do that!

Lauren is pretty hurt about all this. If you want to keep all the "friends" you've made on here I would suggest coming clean.

Personally, it would depend on if you want to keep going with the blog or not. You two bought a house together - that seems to be a pretty big commitment, and you have both already stressed about how each of you get on the other about posting and keeping the audience interested. We would be sad to see you go, but our would wouldn't end. Promise.

I don't think you NEED to do a Q&A or go through a timeline or talk about each thing this guy said about you. Another secret is that we read to be entertained. I find it more funny that people have made it a goal in life to prove you wrong. Entertaining no doubt, but not worth a whole lot.

Also, posting you two stripping wouldn't help. But it would be entertaining no doubt. lol...

Lauren said...

I'm going to go ahead and say a big NO to the stripping video...

I think this is all really funny. People are weirded out because now they think you are creepy and pervs. I'm pretty sure we already knew that though :)

7. If chicks can get completely and ridiculously immersed in the awfulness that is twilight, they can certainly continue to pretend you are real and someday you will find their super cute blog and fb profile and marry them. I'd miss my guilty pleasure.

P.S- I see Jonathan Thomas Martin: Supermodel at the gym all the time. He's a creeper and I laugh every time I see him :)

2. Because it would be fun, though it doesn't need to relate to the real identities bit.

7. Because I love the lols and the guilty pleasure of reading this blog.

I said it once and I'll say it again, this is entertainment. You guys are funny, and maybe girls shouldn't be throwing themselves at anonymous guys and then be weirded out. Don't stop writing. Plus, if this is all from your past- I'm DYING to know how it all ends!

b. who the freak cares about lauren? she's just dumb for letting a stranger moderate her comments. it's the internet, people aren't always who they say they are.

You've given yourselves away!

I didn't think that the other guy had any idea what your identities were. He didn't really make "arguments," he just claimed to know something about the authors.

However, by stating that the exposer's information "appears so sound," you have only confirmed that what he is saying is actually true. If you'd just ignored his site or denied it, no one would have known one way or the other. But, by quoting it and basically admitting that he's backed you into a corner (by limiting your options to those listed) you've only given significant credibility to his assertions.

To top it off, you never directly denied any of the exposer's statements.

It's over.

Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong but I'm pretty sure #1 reads..

"1. We can explain why this other dude's blog is untrue and point to several alternative explanations as to why his arguments appear to be so sound, but really aren't.

How about you re-read that again. Thanks

Also, even if they wanted to, why would they deny or tell the truth right away. It's suspense man, so chill out.

It's crazy how people take this so seriously. Fake or not, this blog is a great read. Keep it up.

I think this is all hilarious.
I would find it even funnier if you are both in your 30's, one divorced and one married. Why? Because girls across Utah were fawning over you like you were the last two guys on the planet.
Congratulations guys!

Anonymous said...

I'm actually kind of sadenned by this...it's like the end of a legacy or something...

Honestly, I'm not sure I want to keep reading if I have to prentend it's real when it's not...lame I know. I never had any intentions of "searching out" the REAL Calvin or Jake, just following the blog because it's entertaining, but now that I know it's fake(not that I ever thought it was real anyway) I have no intentions of following anymore. Way to screw it up Jake and Calvin, or John and Cameron whoever the crap you are.

You've already admitted it! You said Blazzer is completely right... Here is what Blazzer last said:

"Well, apparently since you are posting all the comments the jig is up. I too say bravo. I hope if nothing else you consider transforming the blog into a "How we did it?" sort of thing. I am curious, are you also "Expose MBP"?"

You have officially admitted that this is all fake.

PS - And if for some crazy reason you aren't John Maxim & Cameron Daley, I feel bad for the shit storm these two men are in the middle of!

Just come clean. I would still read the blog because I want to know how you did it! But seriously, just TELL THE TRUTH!

Bethany said...

haha wow! Well I say tell the truth because now a lot of people probably think you guys are total creepers in your 30's haha! But you are excellent writers at least the guy got that part completely correct!

guys. i'm thinking along the lines of,

"definitely, maybe" or "how I met your mother"

cut out the crap of flirting with 20 something girls and let the story telling commence. it is actually better this way (from a reader's persective) and you can put a more narrative styling to it and work your creative energy still.

and what the heck happened with Lauren? thats what i think might be weird.

Hi "Jake and Calvin," this is the first time I've heard/read your blog. I have no knowledge of what you've written about in the past. I don't see why it's so important for you to reveal your identities. If the people you write about haven't figured it out, I don't see the need to satisfy the curiosity of random bloggers who already don't seem to like you. Lol!

On the flip side, if you've written about things that would hurt the people you've written about, keep your identities to yourselves. Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with coming clean. You will have a much harder time finding dates though. What woman will want to date you knowing she will be next blog post.

Ultimately, do what feels right to you. You'll figure it out.

next topic of your blog post.

So last night I was sent a text ... "I MUST TALK TO YOU ABOUT MBP!"

So time passed and I then I was told all of this information about the situation.

.... She continued to tell me how you erased all of your accounts... which why would you do it unless it wasn't true?

So in my opinion I think your caught....

I haven't been paying too much attention to your blog but I must say... I'm slightly disapointed if all of this is lies. However, I completely give you props for pulling it off.

However I feel as though the "we" at the begining of the blog was fairly blatent... therefore. I'm impressed if it's only been one guy.

My comment is straight up....no Nikki sarcastic snark trying to incite violence among commentors. I don't really care who you guys are, I never had. Reading this blog for me was never about some sordid fantasy like most of the girls who read it and are butt hurt by all this. It is great entertainment no matter what. You could have been 2 60 year old women behind the scenes and for me it would be no different. I say let it lie...not as in untrue kind of lie but as in laying down. Just let it simmer. Leave it alone. If you come clean and are married and divorced 30 somethings, I would still read Confessions of a Mormon former bachelor pad....
I know the chick attention is choice, but your writing is good enough that you would get a new audience and keep some of the old audience. String us along through your life...I'll join.

You guys should make a video and post it on the blog. Just cover your faces and show parts of the pad so that we believe you.

Gwen,

You are reading the comment incorrectly.

The point is that the exposer's factual assertions don't seem very sound, because they're just that - assertions. 50/50 chance they're false. But for MBP to say they appear sound suggests that they really are. If they weren't sound, MBP would have just ignored them or if anything, denied them.

And Gwen, no matter how much you kiss up to MBP, they're still not going to date you. Well, John Maxim might, since he's divorced...

Keyser Soze? To me, that film reference in the blog title alone confirmed for me that you're absolutely older than 22.

But, seriously. I'm not disturbed by that idea. Why is anyone else? I don't feel as if I've been lied to - because I suspect these experiences were shared from the past. And I don't even care that you flirted with girls. If you're John and Cameron, we know from the YouTube videos that you've dabbled in acting and directing. We also know that you're writers. As far as I'm concerned, you were just playing another role - a role that was based on a version of yourselves, but 10 years younger.

Anyway, for my part, I think a Q & A could be interesting.

Unknown said...

I say keep writing! I think most people that read this blog just love the stories. That's why I read! You guys are funny, and great writers. Who cares if the stories are from yesterday, 10 years ago, or if they are completely fabricated? Who cares IF you are in your 30's? Your age doesn't make these stories all of the sudden perverted or any less entertaining. If you enjoy writing this blog, then keep yourselves annonymous and keep writing! And If you are John and Cameron... well done :) I always thought this sounded like John's personality anyway. ;) Keep up the good work. :)

This is soooooooo funny and I can't believe that some people still think this might be some super conspiracy fake.

I know John Maxim and have for nearly 9 years. I know Cameron too, but not as well. I can verify that though they actually happened 10 years ago, for the most part these stories are true. I have heard many of them before. Oh, and John dates 18 and 19 year old girls on occasion now... so I'm pretty sure he didn't need the blog to "creepily" get to know any. Get over yourselves girls, these guys were trying to entertain you, not date you. It was more entertaining when you thought they could be real. They knew that obviously.

John and Cameron, keep writing please. If not this then start your personal blogs back up.

You guys are awesome.

I have to agree. Really, the remaining anonymous wasn't really needed to hide who you really are, it was needed to hide who you're writing about.

While remaining anonymous you could be harsh and painfully honest about events and people, because for the most part you were protecting your characters from being able to identify themselves in this blog.

I think if anything, who ever "revealed" this probably did more damage to the girls Jake and Calvin wrote about rather than the to themselves. Now these girls they wrote about, if real, can easily be identified by any friends or followers of this blog who actually know the pair.

I don't really care who you really are, I'm just sad to know that if this is true, and the cat is out of the bag, you'll have to either start making things up completely, or sugar coat the truth. Which really is sad, because true or not, I enjoyed the fact that I could relate with the thoughts and feelings you described, they're so brutally honest that you just can't talk to people about them without getting this type of over-reacted, illogical response. Because let's face it, a woman couldn't survive a day in the mind of a man(of course, I'm sure that goes both ways).

If all of this is the truth though, maybe you guys shoulda hired a PR guy, I mean that blogs evidence was circumstantial at best, but your actions, whether all this is accurate or not, made it true in the minds of the people. To be honest, you shouldn't have reacted at all, you could've posted a link to that blog in the next post with comments joking about how thorough this "hater" was and how you're glad that kind of crazy talk didn't deter your readers. We all could've gotten a laugh about how that person takes life way too seriously.

One word. Strategy.

Even if you are thirty, I'll definitely keep reading. If anything, you just taught a bunch of girls to not believe everything they read. That's a life lesson everyone needs to learn. We can look at is as not being lied to, but just being taught something.

You guys really DO care. :P

In reality though I'll be a little disappointed if you're not twenty two. Not because I want to have your babies, but because every time you post something new, I'll have it in the back of my mind that you're 30. It's harder for me to relate. I have no idea why. Maybe because of the fact that marriage for one of you would be involved. Oh and divorce for the other. And the fact that you're talking to 19 year old girls and rating them...

Eh.

Whatever. It's still entertaining nonetheless.

Anonymous said...

My feelings are reminiscent of how I felt when I found out the LDS church wasn't true...lied to, betrayed, annoyed.

Why bother pretending when we know you are not being truthful? Why would we trust anything else you say? You could have started this blog with the premise of tales from your bachelor days, and then no one would be upset.

What about all those girls who sent you their pictures to be rated? Did your wife/girlfriend know you were doing that? I would be pretty ticked if my husband was rating other women (or young girls) online. Not to mention your tweeting, facebooking and blog following of hundreds of girls.

I didn't get into the craze that some others did but I believed you were for the most part genuine. Why do people continue to lie to us to get gain? I left the church and I am leaving this blog. I can't stand being lied to.

I don't think you can make a comeback anyway now that you have been exposed. Sorry.

There is no way the commenter named "John Maxim" above is really John Maxim or Jake, because none of the words are misspelled.

since you asked... said...

I think you should...

1. explain why the other dude's blog is untrue and point to several alternative explanations as to why his arguments appear to be so sound, but really aren't.

-because then we would know what he got right and what he got wrong.

2. tell the truth

-I am dying to know all the "other stuff" - but then again why would any of us really believe that you would be telling the truth?

3. lay out a time line for our viewing pleasure from the birth of this blog all the way through yesterday.

-for some reason this one sounds kind of boring, but since you brought it up, why not? I want to know everything!

4. do a series of Q&A blog posts ... and answer each and every one of them as honestly as possible.

-because I am pretty sure some of the girls on here would want to know why you were being peeping toms at that sleep over. and some probably still think this whole thing is real.

5. upload the video of stripping at those two bachelorette parties.

-because you are both incredibly funny, so I know this would be good!

6. give mad props to Blazzer.

-you just did. blazzer pissed me off a few times, but I will admit he has left a couple of good comments.

7. PLEASE DON'T ignore these accusations BUT continue writing as Calvin and Jake AND IF Jonathan Thomas Martin: Supermodel and Abbie Warnock send their parents to our house wielding baseball bats THEN THAT WOULD BE A FUNNY POST!

8. And then when you get to the end of your stories... join hands and walk quietly into the sunset.

I'll admit I am a hater of this blog, but it is a love/hate relationship. I have been completely entertained and would be sad if it was over. Plus I would miss showing up on your front page comment section at least once a week.

Please keep writing, even if you have to adapt it a little. I have read some other single mormon blogs and they are incredibly boooooorrrrrriiiiing!

Maybe you can put on those PJ's over the top of a t-shirt and levi's... just so I can have the opportunity to slowly unzip them with my teeth without the risk of losing my Temple Recommend. Wait... you're 18, right?

If your wife doesn't know about this then there is something wrong with you and you need to see a counselor. If she does know about this then you both need help and counseling. Ick.

Sometimes blog drama - aka drama surrounding your blog and not drama from your life written in your blog - is kinda annoying.

But all the same, I've been entertained, but I wanna know who you really are. It wouldnt change anything for me, whether you're two super old dudes or actually who you've professed to be. But the curiosity is killing me.. I feel like knowing who you actually are wouldnt change anything. People would still read - people would still become ridiculously involved in your lives (as much as you can via the interweb) and they'd still be entertained. And past stories or present... doesnt matter.

So solve the mystery - that alone could be several posts of entertainment.

Better to learn not to trust everyone you meet online, LDS (Mormon) or not.

I do find it interesting, though, that when you take a phrase from that quoted blog post and run it through Google, only this post on MBP comes up. From my experience, if something has been available on Google it is cached, so to speak, and you can still find it on search engines for a while. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I've still had this happen after I've made a post private.

Good luck to you, whomever you guys really are.

I just enjoy reading about real-life situations. If it IS all fake, you should start writing about what's real. You're good enough writers that it'd be entertaining no matter what scenario you're in.

So, I guess, if you've been lying all this time, fess up and continue writing great posts. If you're telling the truth, then keep on writing as you are. But maybe that's just me.

I'm impressed by the genius of Jake and Calvin. This April fools day joke is EPIC!

I mean look at the following you have on this one post! 105 or so comments? That doubles your highest count of any other post.

Now the link to the site that "revealed" you is phony:

http://mbprevealed.blogspot.com/

I'll admit I was sucked in, but the more I actually thought about it, the more I realized that the argument for how John and Cameron were weak, even at their strongest.

So these two guys once lived in a house with a bunch of people, now they write comics and also do movie reviews. I mean seriously, how many people write blogs that aren't struggling artists or writers trying to be heard by the masses? That is all of the evidence.

How do they know these two guys are Jake and Calvin? Well One of them likes the band Less Than Jake, so he must be Jake. The other guy is a fan of Calvin and Hobbs comics so he is obviously Calvin.

In my opinion that's a very big stretch.

Why would they do this to themselves? I mean look how angry and crazy people have gotten over this! Well also take note of their number of followers, it has INCREASED since this blog post.

As they say, any publicity is good publicity, I guess "they" were right.

I'll be surprised either way. I've always known that while the events may have been true, there had to be something more than names changed or people would've found them out easily by now. I always assumed the chronology of the events were condensed, shifted, or skewed in some manner.

Whitney Haddock said...

homo... that pretty much sums it up. I'm pretty confused, i can't tell if you are saying he is right or if you are saying he is lying. Honestly, i'd be disappointed if this was all a lie, only because it was funny to hear what and how the early 20's RM thought and about all of his dating escapades. If this is fake or you are post dating all of these events by 10 years then i say come clean, if it's real then keep your identities secret and let us keep having a look into your lives...it is awfully entertaining, and if it is fake...then dang you or y'all are some good writers..

GOOD RIDDANCE. What a horrible thing this blog has done by idolizing the "horizontal" make-out or getting THIS close to breaking the law of chastity. It is not okay to be a beacon of stretching the limit or almost crossing the line and then flaunting your temple attendance.

It is so creepy to think that two thirty-something men got a flood of emails, embedded with pictures of teens and young co-eds, asking to be rated on a superficial scale. Disgusting. And illegal.

Does your wife know about your e-flirting? If not, someone please tell her. I hope she leaves you.

I am curious about how many of the anonymous comments are really just the same people commenting over and over? And for the record, the people pretending to comment as Jake and Calvin are just pathetic.

My suggestions for the multiple anonymous commenters: If you turn off the WoW and go upstairs, I bet your Mom will make you a PB&J. It'll make you feel better.

Or get a life you pathetic loser.

Maybe if you got "horizontal" more often, you wouldn't have to spend so much time attacking anonymous blog authors and tracking down "their true identities."

I don't care who you are. All I know is that you're both (or just you, if you're one person, in which case this applies to you doubly) freaking geniuses. You saw an incredible opportunity and capitilized on it, just like any decent businessman would do. If this is real (highly doubtful) then I commend you on your captivating writing skills, and if it's embellished or fabricated, then you deserve some serious credit for pulling it off. I have a feeling that even if this is the end of MBP, this will be far from the end of whomever is behind "Jake" & "Calvin".

On an unrelated note, all of this drama exploding across the internet kept me from getting any studying done, and therefore single-handedly caused me to fail my accounting test. So screw you guys.

i don't see why you need to reveal your identities to you readers. i think most people don't care whether you're writing as Calvin and Jake the characters, or Calvin and Jake two real 22 year olds or Calvin and Jake the How I Met Your Mother version, you don't have to admit to anything if you don't want to. since when an anonymous blogger have to do that anyway?

if some of the readers feel cheated after flirting with 'two' strangers on the internet i'd say look, you seemed to have a good time too girls, laugh it off. and it's a life lesson.

though i don't agree with some of the things that you do as a real person or fake character, nobody's perfect. sometimes we learn and change and sometimes we just don't (and perfect characters don't make good stories).

this blog is still a good entertainment piece, fake or not. i hope you'll continue writing.

btw to anyone thinking 30 is 'super-old', wait until you are 60.

Okay hold the phone. Let's break this down:

So... on Sunday MBP's twitter, facebook, and comments go dead, right?

Then the blog MBPrevealed.blogspot.com is created and posts the information we see in this post on it.

Then twitter blows up with a whole lot of WTF?

Then MBP makes the last post about Jake making out with Claire's roommate.

Then MBP's facebook opens back up, comments turn back on, and MBP creates a NEW twitter account.

Then MBP makes this post, supposedly outing themselves as John Maxim and Cameron Daley and ending the magic.

Then The blog MBPrevealed.blogspot.com totally changes. Still called "The Truth Behind MBP" however now instead of "What is the secret behind the Mormon Bachelor Pad?" it says "What is the secret behind Mildred Benson's Pretzels?" and then goes on to actually talk about pretzels and provides a recipe.

Does that sound about right?

My question is this then, if Jake and Calvin really were outed, and panicked about getting caught, why did John Maxim and Cameron Daley's facebook accounts (which are totally public by the way and have been this whole time) never go private? and why did they not make their personal blogs (also public) private?

I think there is more going on here than meets the eye.

I freaking love it!

I am gay. Gay and stupid. Yes I write this blog. I like 16 and 17 year old girls. I am a fat ass. I smoke but lie to my Bishop so I can get a Temple Recommend. I am Gay. I write this Blog. I am John Maxim and I approve this message.

I am gay. My wife doesn't know it but I sleep with my best friend all the time, and we don't get too much sleep if you know what I mean. I have what some people might call a bit of a meth problem. I write this blog. My name is Cameron Daley and I approve this message.

Megan I like how your a playing the devils advocate. It does seem like the evidence is pretty weak. Plus would they really post it on their blog if it was true?

I don't know what to believe anymore.

I want to believe that this is all a big joke.

WilWheaton said...

As the psychic and boy genius that I am, I predict that another MBP blog post will appear late tonight or tomorrow...

Unknown said...

Yeah, like I was reading on twitter how stupid people are feeling thinking that MBP wasn't real?

How stupid are we all going to feel if this all turns out to be part of some elaborate hoax?

People are acting like they are super private detectives uncovering secret information, but it's all from public blogs and facebook...

So if it IS Cameron and John we are seeing what they WANT us to see.

If it ISN'T Cameron and John, if they are just straw men, then we are still seeing what Jake and Calvin WANT us to see - which is nothing.

Whew, my head is getting a little sore.

Smile.

those people claiming they're 'John and Cameron' are definitely fake. Just how it was written says it all.

Megan, their personal blogs were made private at first.

It must be pretty cool to know that there are entire posts and blogs dedicated to figuring out who you really are.

Neither confirm nor deny anything. It's more fun that way.

WilWheaton said...

Megan you're right.

I think if "John and Cameron" were really being outed through the former reveal blog, they could've just deleted all those blogs and made their personal facebook accounts private. The Reveal blog was weak in the fact that, if they really wanted to "John and Cameron" could have easily avoided being "outed" if it's true, blocking or deleting all of the blogs and facebook accounts that were linked, or if it's not true by not taking any action whatsoever.

The more I think about it the more it becomes clear that if they were truly being "outed" the evidence was so circumstantial that it could've been easily deflected.

I think the "MBP Revealed" Blog changing yesterday makes it clear that this is some kind of joke.

I also agree that "Jake and Calvin" wouldn't have copied all the text to this blog if they didn't WANT everyone to see it.

I will laugh tomorrow at all of the people who got so upset by this, but hey, it's the nature of the viral media.

Now thinking about this more, and considering tomorrow is April fools, and considering that "Calvin" likes too pull practical jokes like putting toilet water on the toilet seat, and considering that "Jake" if I remember right, likes to poop in pringles cans and send them to people. I've now come to the conclusion that this whole thing is just a big April fools joke, and MBP is still real and hasn't been found out yet.

There is no way this is an April Fools joke because there are WAY too many links! especially since they talk about the LOS scale on thier personal blogs

wilwheaton - you're an idiot. and you seriously need to get a life.

don't you have a star trek convention to go to or something?

Anonymous said...

We need a new post to comment on because once you pass 200 you have to click on the newer link, which nobody can see unless they're looking.

Unknown said...

LOS? I haven't read ALL of either of their blogs, but all I see are 1-10 scale references. Which, we all know Jake and Calvin didn't make up the 1-10 scale...

but if either one of them actually said "LOS" before MBP did I would take that as proof. Whats the post anonymous where's the link?

March Fools said...

There's a lot of little things too. Jake and Calvin both disagree about the hotness of Kristen Stewart. John and Cameron have a similar debate on their youtube review of Twilight.

John's got "The Usual Suspects" as a favorite movie. Ties in nicely with the name of this post.

And really...horizontal make-outs? There's only three people in the world who talk like that without being ironic...Jake, Calvin..and John's facebook interests.

Even the blog formats are very similar, with John and Cameron happily posting the most critical comments on the right of their blog.

know it all said...

Megan - are you serious? You really don't believe that john and cameron are jake and calvin? just look at their hands for crying out loud! if you need further proof, then you need your brain examined.

they closed down access to MBP facebook, twitter, took down all the youtube videos from the blogs that were linked to the revealed blog, and made their personal blogs private (atleast temporarily).

I think they are pretty funny, but I don't think they are smart enough to pull off an elaborate prank like you are assuming. there is obviously more to this story than we know about.

anyone who thinks they have all the answers is just stupid!

only one thing is certain: jake and calvin are john and cameron.

Unknown said...

Know It All,

Are you serious? I disagree about the hands. Also, their personal blogs did not go private I have been reading through them ever since, this happened and unless my cache is super human they were public the whole time. Their facebook never went private either. I don't think anything here is certain.

I'm leaning towards it being them, but its anything but certain.

John Maxim's denying it on his facebook wall.

Something to consider...

I actually met John Maxim through the Cinematic Experience. Guess how I found it? It was a button on Seriously So Blessed. For probably like 2 months last year.

I asked John about it once and he said that, "They were homie's and she did him a favor by putting up the button."

What if the genius mind behind Seriously So Blessed writes this blog and based the characters off of John and Cameron?

If they're homie's then she must know them. Maybe she knew them from the house of nine?

Or maybe they are in cahoots somehow. I've never met Cameron, but I can confirm that they meet up every Thursday night to "Work on their script" as a previous commenter stated.

I cannot confirm any of the kissing stories, but John's roommate Ben told me John has made-out with 189 girls once.

John and Cameron's personal blogs were def. private when all of this first happen. It was at the same time that this blog's comments were disabled and the MBP facebook page had momentarily disappeared.

Also in john and camerons comics they use the word "nubile" to describe girls as well as a few other "favorite words" commonly used by Jake a Calvin

The link for the "LOS" thing i was talking about is here..it is john Maxim's blog and the date was june 20th 2008 http://jmetropolis.blogspot.com/2008/06/truth-is.html

OK Cameron, enough. I am your wife and I command you to stop this blog and put these people out of their misery...or else I will totally kick your butt.

And you know I'll do it, too.
